Course Description

It’s often not a matter of if fraud will occur, but when it will occur.  Small businesses are prime targets for criminals looking to steal money because they typically have more credit than an individual and fewer processes and protections in place that a large corporation would have.

Breaches and other fraud crimes are on the rise and Business Identity Theft is a real issue facing small business owners. More and more, criminals are getting a hold of business information (via the Dark Web or other means), and are impersonating a business officer to take out loans, file fake tax returns and much more.    These kinds of crimes leave the business owner responsible for clearing the mess, often suffering financial and reputational loss in the process.

This course will educate the small business owner about breaches and fraud; how they occur and implications if they happen to you, as well as common fraud schemes today and how to better protect your business.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn why accountants and other small business owners are at increased risk for fraud.

  • Learn how a breach can impact your business, both legally, financially, and reputationally.

  • Receive tips for responding to a breach event

  • Learn about common fraud schemes targeting accounting firms and other small businesses and how to protect against them.

  • View a demo of Detect & Defend, a new product from Intuit, that can help detect fraud or theft early, and resolve it for you, if it does occur.
